As a child, heck, even as a teenager I love the Lemony Snicket series, A Series of Unfortunate Events. To me, the series had the perfect amount of mystique and a tad bit of a 'chill'. If you like this series you will love, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Ransom Riggs has a way of drawing in his readers from page one to the very end, he leaves his readers wanting more. He does this through his characters and writing style. The characters in his novel are superb, they are well developed and all have a unique personality that fit into the story line well. Jacob, the main character, is your typical sarcastic teenager. His snarky or witty comments had me laughing out loud. Although, his charisma truly helped me enjoy the book it was his love for his grandfather and his yearning to find out more about this mystery that truly enticed me to the character. The only gripe I have about the characters is that I was intrigued by them and wanted to find out more about them. With a lot of books I love I fall IN love with the character and am able to picture myself as the main character; but this time around I could not do that. I just did not want to be Jacob.
Riggs possess a very conversational writing style. His writing is amazing, it draws the reader in on the first page. It is as if someone is telling you the story, which as much as I love the 'classical' or Victorian style of writing I cannot put down a conversational book. Through out the novel there are strange vintage photographs of the 'peculiar' children. These photographs are amazing and certainly help move the novel along! A couple of my friends have told me that you cannot see the photographs well on an E-Reader such as the Nook or the Kindle; so I recommend buying it in a hard copy (plus the cover is so amazing you want it to display!). This novel is intriguing, and the monsters he creates are creepy enough to give you the chills. Riggs possess a way to truly capture your attention. Between the brilliant writing style, the characters, monsters, and oh let's not forget time travel I just could not put this book down!
